St. Patrick’s Day Green Tea Truffles

Looking for a fun twist on Saint Patrick’s Day treats?

These green tea truffles combine the subtle earthiness of matcha with smooth cream cheese and white chocolate for an elegant spin on traditional Irish-themed desserts.

The vibrant green centers aren’t just festive—they’re naturally colored with matcha powder and enhanced with a touch of food coloring.

Perfect for parties or gifting, these bite-sized treats take just over an hour to make and look impressive on any dessert table.

Best of all, you don’t need any special candy-making skills!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

These truffles hit all the right notes for both beginners and experienced bakers.

The recipe uses simple ingredients you can find at most grocery stores, and there’s no complicated equipment needed – just a mixer and microwave.

If you’ve never made candy before, these truffles are forgiving since the cream cheese filling is easy to shape and the white chocolate coating doesn’t require tempering.

The matcha adds a sophisticated tea flavor that balances perfectly with the sweetness of the white chocolate, making these more interesting than typical mint-flavored holiday treats.

Ingredients You’ll Need

For the truffles:

  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2/3 teaspoon matcha powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Green food coloring (gel works best)

For the coating:

  • 2 ½ cups white chocolate melts or shredded white chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional, for smoother drizzle)
  • Optional, to garnish: a pinch of matcha powder

How to Make Green Tea Truffles

For the green filling:

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, matcha powder and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined and smooth.
  • Add green food coloring, starting with a few drops, and mix until the filling turns a vibrant green. Adjust the color as needed.
  • Scoop the mixture into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place them on a rack or parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least 30 minutes, or until firm.

For the white chocolate coating:

  • Melt the white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate.
  • If you want to decorate your truffles with green drizzling, reserve some of the melted white chocolate and mix with the green food coloring, adding a few drops each time until you reach your desired shade o green.
  • Remove the green filling balls from the freezer.
  • Using a fork, toothpick or dipping tool, dip each frozen ball into the melted white chocolate, letting the excess drip off. Place the coated truffles back on the rack or parchment paper. Repeat with all the truffles.
  • Optionally sprinkle with a pinch of matcha powder. It helps if the coating is still a bit warm, this way the matcha powder will stick to the surface better.
  • If you are using the green melted chocolate to decorate the truffles, dip a teaspoon into the mixture and drizzle over the truffles in a zig-zag pattern.
  • Let the white chocolate coating set completely, either at room temperature or in the refrigerator for faster results.
